The article aims to analyses three problems, the solution of which may contribute to the improvement in the value of scientific activity. It focuses on highlighting such changes in the conducting of research which may lead to the creation of psychological barriers impeding the development of original (creative) research. It discusses changes which have occurred in the attitude to scientific authorities. Finally, it presents the consequences for further development of research which the disappearance of the „master – apprentice” relation, which so far has been the guarantee of progress in scientific research, may bring.
