The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between the trauma extent, demographic factors and social support and the frequency of using active and avoidant coping strategies by adolescents after a flood stress. We analyzed the data obtained from 303students aged 11 to 20.The results showed that the range of traumatic experiences had a significant and positive impact on the frequency of using active (e. g. seeking social support, logical problem solving) and avoidant coping strategies (e. g. avoiding other people, blaming oneself). The bigger access to social support reported by the subjects, the greater the use of active coping strategies. Coping strategies applied by adolescents are considered in the context of possessing important, psychological resources.
