The present account attempts to outline the basic strategies and models of action applied in the prophylaxis of addictions and health promotion, considering the evolution of approaches in the field. It also discusses the opportunity for such activities in Poland connected with the model of a balanced development of local communities based on partnership. The article aims at the promotion of a multi-level and long-term approach to the discussed problems, based on scientific research and practitioners’ work.
