Body image plays an important role in the general self-esteem, quality of life and social relationships. It affects also aspirations to the perfect body image like diet and physical activity. The study group consisted of 100 female students from universities of Łódź, faculties: polish philology, cosmetology and sociology. 75% students in the study group achieved BMI index in the normal section, 13% had underweight, 10% was overweight and 2% was obese. There was no statistically significant difference between three faculties in respect of body image perception. BMI index affected body image perception in terms of reviews of students’ self-body appearance which can be influenced by feelings towards one’s body but also by other people’s critical comments.
