Recently investigations of subliminal effects develop very dynamically. These researches encounter the problem of how to operationalize conscious awareness to determine if displayed stimuli are really subliminal. From the very beginning, this problem is a subject of scientific discussions. In this paper we warn against remissness of checking detectababilityof stimuli which are claimed to be subliminal, and we critically reviewed methods proposed by psychophysics developed for such goals.
