The article aims at comparison of the symptoms of midlife transition in clergymen and laic men aged 32-54 years. It was postulated: (H1) higher acceptance of death in clergymen, (H2) lower intensity of midlife crisis symptoms in clergymen, and (H3) higher psychological maturity in clergymen in comparison to laic men. Two groups, 40 men each were investigated by means of Midlife Crisis Questionnaire by Oleś and modified for this study, several questions concerning spiritual life and vocation were added. All three hypotheses were confirmed. Moreover, there were significant differences in two new variables. The clergymen obtained higher results in spiritual maturity and lower results in life discouragement. The results are discussed in terms of life continuity and possible changes according to life structure, familiarity of higher values and death experience in priesthood, as well as ability to consider a great life change in clergymen and laic life.
