The article attempts to reclaim the idea of action research. In the current scientific discourse this approach is treated ambiguously. Sometimes it is a kind of qualitative research method, an independent model or a practical teaching tool as well as a social idea. The article presents the history changes of this idea. Its limitations and problems, which the paradigm brings to modern scientific practice, were also discussed. Moreover, the capabilities of action research approach were considered when it is treated as an inalienable element of the diagnosis or empirical research framework.
